Significant progress has been made on plans to construct a new care home for people with complex needs in Ardara.
The owners of the St. Shanaghan House independent living complex have announced that they are working on developing a second unit.
The building would provide approximately 18 apartments with carers employed to provide care 24 hours per day.
“If everything goes to plan approximately 20 to 25 care jobs should be created,” said Teague McFadden, the residential services manager at St Shanaghan House.
“This will not be a nursing unit but will provide for people who have very high care needs beyond that which home helps would normally provide.”
Plans are at an early stage, but meetings with councillors of the Glenties Municipal District and the local Housing Manager have gathered support for the initiative.
The next step in the ‘Housing for Care’ plan will involve a targeted consultation process with the local community. Management will soon be engaging with current residents of St. Shanaghan House and making presentations to all relevant parties.
