Niall Mór National School has become the first school in Donegal to be awarded the ADHD Champion flag following their participation in ADHD Ireland’s Educational Strategies Programme.

The staff at the Killybegs school engaged in a professional development programme during the past year.

This enabled them to gain a more comprehensive understanding of ADHD and the appropriate educational strategies to best support children with ADHD.

At yesterday’s flag raising ceremony school principal, Eugene Mulligan thanked the staff for taking the time to engage in the programme.

Mr Mulligan said “It is estimated that 1 in 20 students in our schools may have ADHD, but many go through school undiagnosed.

“Therefore, it is important that we as educators gain a deeper understanding of indicators of ADHD and the educational strategies which best support this cohort of children in our school.”

He expressed the school’s gratitude to ADHD Ireland for delivering the programme, with a special mention to Terri and Nicola for all their work in getting the school to this stage.

He also thanked Councillor Niamh Kennedy, special guest for attending and raising the flag in the school.

Fittingly for all the amazing pupils, the day concluded with ice-cream treats for all.
