A young woman who accompanied a delivery driver who drove to Co Donegal to collect a car which had been won in a raffle has been fined €150 for breaching Covid lockdown rules.
Nicole Donnelly accompanied a tow-truck driver who was collecting a car on behalf of a lucky car lottery winner.
However, along the way they were stopped at a Garda Covid checkpoint.
The 21-year-old woman appeared at Falcarragh District Court after being charged under the Movement of Persons Act.
Garda Sergeant Vincent Muldoon told the court that he stopped the truck at Forquar, Milford on April 5th, 2021.
He said the entire country was in lockdown because of Covid but accepted the driver had an excuse for collecting the car.
However, he said he did not accept Ms Donnelly’s excuse saying she had ‘no purpose’ to be traveling during lockdown.
Judge Eiteain Cunningham found Ms Donnelly, of Athboy Lane, Black Water, Co Tyrone, guilty and imposed a fine of €150 and allowed her three months to pay.
