A Covid-19 outbreak has been confirmed in a ward at Letterkenny University Hospital.
As the hospital’s emergency department prepares for a busy weekend, staff are facing further pressures with the rise in Covid-19 cases.
As of 8am this morning there were 27 patients with COVID-19 being treated in the hospital.
The Covid-19 incidence rate has doubled in Donegal in the past week.
Over 500 cases were confirmed by PCR tests in the past fortnight, which translates to an incidence rate of 314.7 per 100,000.
The weekly incidence rate for Donegal, according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, is 160.8 per 100,000.
Letterkenny University Hospital continues to see high attendances at the ED which is leading to significant wait times. The site is in high escalation today as a result of the pressures.
