The community of Narin/Portnoo has welcomed the official opening of Donegal’s first ‘Changing Places’ toilet facility for people with disabilities and their families.
The facility, located just off the car parking area at the beach, is a positive step towards more inclusive amenities.
The toilet, which opened in January, was recently added to the Changing Places Ireland network as the first step-down facility of its kind in Ulster. The project was led by the local Dolmen Centre with the support of Donegal County Council.
The ‘step-down’ facility has all the features of a Changing Places toilet such as a hoist, privacy screen and changing bench. The hoist also enables people to transfer into the beach wheelchair safely.
It is open all year round, Monday – Sunday, including bank holidays, 9.00am – 9.00pm.
“A fantastic facility which means so many children and adults in the areas will no longer be excluded from using the beach and area,” said Changing Places Ireland.
