Graduates of the Department of Design and Creative Media at ATU Donegal were out to impress at their annual end-of-year graduate showcase on Thursday 9 June at 6pm.
And impress they did.
This year’s showcase took place at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal’s Letterkenny campus and is a landmark event as it is the first time, in over two years that graduates, staff, employers and guests had the chance to come together in-person to celebrate the achievements and successful completion of the Design & Creative Media academic year.
The graduate showcase event spotlights pioneering, and exciting work created by ATU Donegal students in the areas of Fashion Animation, Graphic and UX Design, Fashion, Film and Video.

Guests attending the showcase experienced the striking displays of original fashion collections created by the final year students of Fashion with Promotion, with these collections focusing on sustainable fashion and circular design. The McElhinneys Student Designer of the Year Award 2022 winners were Pascale Nwanko (Level 8 ) and Maguerita McHugh (Level 7).
Pascale’s Masquerade – Masked Parade collection painted a theatrical interpretation of James Stewart’s Psychic Duality of Afro-Americans in the Novels of W. E. B. DuBois”. The premise was based on double consciousness from Pascale’s own childhood.

Paschal Nwankwo – McElhinneys Student Designer of the Year Award 2022 (Level 8).

Maguerita was inspired by her family’s engagement with creativity. Her collection celebrates femininity with beautifully detailed and carefully shaped corsets, constructed with fabric dyed with natural dyes, and also recycled ties, previously referred to as a masculine symbol of power.

Marguerita MacHugh – McElhinneys Student Designer of the Year Award 2022 (Level 7).

The final year Graphic & UX (User Experience) Design students exhibited their diverse body of works encompassing a broad range of multi-disciplinary design projects from visual identity, app design, writing/messaging, design for print, motion graphics, website design, illustration, icon design and design for social media.
The Showcase opened with a Fashion catwalk followed by the “Pop-Up” cinema, where the final work of Animation and Film students was screened. Graphic and UX Design is displayed on the second-floor landing and all students work may be viewed in detail in their studios.
