The right choice for University might be closer than you think!

The deadline for the CAO ‘Change-of-Mind’ facility is 5.00pm, 1 July. The CAO ‘Change of Mind’ facility provides Leaving Certificate students with a time to reflect, with this being the final opportunity to adjust CAO options ahead of the September intake. ATU Donegal is encouraging prospective students to consider ATU Donegal in their CAO choices.

Here’s Philomena O’Donnell’s student story:

Engineering was not always on the cards for one of ATU Donegal’s students, Philomena O’Donnell, however, as it turned out it was exactly the right choice for her! Philomena is currently halfway through her Level 8 Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering and is enjoying the degree programme immensely.

During her senior cycle at secondary school, Philomena recognised that she excelled at metalwork and enjoyed this subject above her other Leaving Certificate subjects, but she was unsure how she could carry this interest beyond secondary school. Family members and teachers encouraged Philomena to explore university programmes in Engineering, and most of all Philomena backed herself and chose Mechanical Engineering at ATU Donegal as her first choice in her CAO choices.

Sharing her advice on making the right choice, Philomena commented, “I spoke to lecturers at ATU Donegal and visited the campus to help me arrive at my CAO decision. I was excited on hearing what was offered in the course content, especially how hands on the course modules were, and after visiting the campus to see the practical and ‘real life’ engineering workshops, it made me very comfortable and excited at the prospect of studying at ATU Donegal. I love studying at ATU Donegal, everything is put in place to best support the student. The small class sizes mean I get optimal one-on-one time with the lecturers and the practical workshop labs really help to make sense of what we’re learning when we see it in action.”

If you are looking for advice or information on your Level 8 and Level 6/7 CAO programmes options at ATU Donegal, ahead of the CAO ‘Change of Mind’ deadline, contact the ATU Donegal Schools Engagement Team via phone on (074) 9186104 or by email on lauren.reynolds@lyit.ie
