The Covid-19 incidence rate in Donegal has trebled since the beginning of June, new figures show.

The weekly rate in Donegal jumped from 76.6 per 100,000 on the 28th May to 234.3 per 100,000 by 25th June.

The HPSC reports that 373 new cases were detected by HSE PCR tests in Donegal last week. However the figure does not count people with Covid-19 who tested positive via antigen tests at home.

The latest figures come as Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5 cause a global rise in cases this summer.

Donegal ranks at 16th place in the list of counties with the highest 14-day incidence rates. The 14-day incidence rate is now 463 per 100,000, with Limerick, Waterford and Laois now recorded as the worst-affected counties.

Letterkenny University Hospital is currently treating 38 patients with Covid-19.
