Rising fuel prices are hitting low income earners in rural Ireland the hardest.

A report by Grant Thornton found the problem was heightened in these areas, due to limited public transport.

The report also stated consumers in rural areas remain the most ‘in-elastic’ to price increases, as they rely heavily on cars.

The details of the report published in The Irish Independent, also analysed the impact carbon taxes and fuel excise have had on prices.
