Vital upgrade on the way for narrow Letterkenny footpath

Letterkenny Councillor Gerry McMonagle has welcomed a €250,000 funding allocation for a footpath upgrade in the town centre.

The footpath on the R250 from Kernans Spar out to the Aura Leisure centre is to be upgraded under the Active Travel scheme.

Cllr McMonagle said: “This is something I have been campaigning for some years now and I am delighted that we have been successful with this application.

“I hope now that work will begin shortly as this is one of the busiest and dangerous roads for pedestrians in Letterkenny.”

Earlier this year, Cllr McMonagle told a Letterkenny Milford MD meeting that it’s a “miracle” that nobody’s been killed yet on this stretch of road. He said the path narrows down to 2ft wide at one point and is a particular challenge for mothers and fathers with buggies.
