St. Michael’s Club Notes

This week’s St Michael’s GAA club notes are out.

All County League

St. Michael’s retained their Division 1 status after a good performance against Glenswilly last Sunday. With Glenswilly on 6 points and Michael’s on 8 points,  a win would be enough to retain their place in Division 1.

With their recent run of injuries namely Jamie Hunter, Micheal Rock Gallagher, Patrick (Pood) McGinley and Edward O’Riley, and with Micheal McGinley and Micheal Langan unavailable, their cause was further restricted when Brian Creed was ruled out just before throw-in.

Glenswilly, for the first time this year, had the services of their talisman Micheal Murphy for this crunch time. St. Michael’s started well and by the 60th minute had led by 8 points but, as expected, Glenswilly were not going to make it easy and hit 1-04 in the remaining ten minutes.

Now St. Michael’s looks forward to welcoming McCumhaills to the bridge in mid-August for the start of the Senior Championship.

St. Michael’s Team: Oisín Cannon; Stephen Doak, Liam Paul Ferry, Antoin McFadden, Hugh O’Donnell, Kyle McGarvey, Ruairí Friel, Martin Breslin, John McFadden, Colin McFadden, Oisín Langan, Carlos O’Reilly, Andrew Kelly, Martin McElhinney, Odhran McFadden. Sub: Michael Cannon for J.McFadden (50).

Scorers for St Michael’s: Andrew Kelly 0-5f; Colin McFadden 1-0; Martin McElhinney 0-3; Carlos O’Reilly 0-2; Liam Paul Ferry 0-1.

Both teams are at home to Naomh Conaill this Saturday evening. The Reserves Match time is to be confirmed whilst the Seniors throw in at 7pm.

The Late Grace Sweeney

CLG Naomh Micheál and Naomh Micheál Bord na nÓg were shocked and saddened at the recent death of Grace Sweeney.

Grace tragically passed away last recently and her presence at the Sunday Morning Academy will be deeply missed. Her fellow U7 players and coaches will forever hold her memory dear to them and will always remember her energy and fun loving spirit.

The club would like to pass on our deepest condolences to her mother Geraldine, sister Cara and brother Patrick, Geraldine’s partner Damien, her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends.

The club provided a Guard of Honour at Grace’s funeral in St. Michael’s Church in Creeslough last Thursday.

Sports First Aid and Basic Life Support Centre

The health and wellbeing committee have organised training in Sports First Aid and Basic life support such as use of AED and CPR.

They aim to run it on an evening during the week, and will last 4 – 5 hours and tea will be provided.

This is a certified course from the Irish Heart Foundation and the club have offered to cover the cost of this training, however numbers are limited.

If you are interested in undertaking the course, you can forward your name to 0864045442. It is hoped that it will run in the next few weeks, if there is sufficient interest.

St. Michael’s Mini Lotto

There was no Jackpot winner in the St. Michael’s Mini Lotto last Sunday evening. The numbers drawn were: 2,10,11,12,14,19. There were no Match 5 Winners. 13 people matched 4 and their names were drawn. The winner of the €100 was Martina Carr, Creeslough. This week’s Jackpot will be €7200.

Lotto Tickets are on sale in the usual outlets and also online from Clubforce at the following link up until 6pm on any Sunday evening: https://play.clubforce.com/play_newa.asp?ll_id=911#Anchor. €2 and €5 quick pick tickets are now available online as well.

St. Michael’s Bingo

The €200 on the House on Game 9 at The St. Michael’s Bingo last Sunday night was won by Rose Ann Rodgers, the winner of the €50 on the line was Gracie Gallagher and the €100 House on Game 5 was won by Mary Shovlin.

Anyone who has any trouble accessing a book should contact Ann Marie Kelly or Suzi Roarty.
