Works are underway to build a new bus lay-by and a pedestrian crossing on the Kilmacrennan Road above Letterkenny University Hospital.

The lay-by is being built at the entrance to Errigal College and adjacent to the site of the Central Nursing Unit. It is expected to be completed by the end of July.

These works are being carried out in collaboration between the HSE, Errigal College and Donegal County Council and as part of the planning conditions for the Central Nursing Unit. The works will consist of kerbing, realignment of footpath, construction of a traffic island, drainage works, rearrangement of road markings and erection of traffic signals.

The new €38million community hospital in Letterkenny will comprise of a 110-bed unit including a mix of long/short-stay rehabilitation and dementia care with associated resident accommodation. The first floor of the new Letterkenny Community Hospital will provide 25 intermediate care beds and 25 medical rehab beds alongside a Rehabilitation Unit.

It is anticipated that the new Community Hospital will be operational in 2024.
