A doctor has been hailed a life-saver after a medical emergency at her local GAA club.

Dr Amara Bonner, the daughter of Donegal Senior Manager Declan Bonner, took swift action when a player became ill during a Na Rossa training session last night at Pairc Madavagh.

When club player Trevor Melly became suddenly ill during senior training, club doctor Amara and Trevor’s teammates were quick to act.

Trevor was rushed to Altnagelvin hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

His family have issued a sincere thank you to all involved in the frightening incident.

A statement from Na Rossa GAA said it was a “massive shock to everyone who witnessed that last night”.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Trevor and his family this morning after what was a very difficult night for his family and everyone concerned.

“A sincere thanks also to the ambulance team that also treated Trevor as they arrived at the pitch in quick time.”

“On behalf of the family and our club we are indebted to our community for stepping up and turning this into a good story.”

Well-wishers are sending thoughts and prayers to Trevor as they wish him a full recovery.

Trevor first came into the Na Rossa senior side in the mid ’90s and before the turn of the millennium, he was a regular in the teams which won two Division 2 titles and 1 intermediate. In 2006 he captained Na Rossa to the Division 3 title.

Get well soon Trevor
