More than 300 people participated in the family fun day hosted by Donegal Sports Partnership at the Bernard McGlinchey Town Park in Letterkenny.
The “Let’s Play Donegal” event was held at the end of what was National Play Week.
Kristy Browne, project coordinator with Donegal Sports Partnership who organised the fun day, said she was delighted with how the day went.
“It was a massive success and we had over 300 people, a mixture of adults and children, taking part. We were delighted that the games were inclusive for all.
“Among those who attended were Ukrainian families, multi-generational and families from an ethnic minority. The event included a variety of wooden garden games that were handmade and delivered from Cork,” she commented.
“Other activities included street chalk, tug-of-war, snakes and ladders, and various trails and challenges for different age groups. We recently had both parks in Letterkenny digitally mapped out for orienteering and it was great to incorporate this into Friday’s event.
“This proved popular with families and we are planning to officially launch the app in August. Families will be able to attend and learn to navigate maps and download the digital version to their phones.
“As the summer progress, we also plan to officially launch the wooden games. At this point they will be available for community organisations to borrow and make their events more playful,” the project coordinator added.
