Ireland’s oldest serving councillor, Ian McGarvey, celebrates his 92nd birthday today.

At a time when most people his age are taking it a little easier, the Ramelton man is still arguing the cause for his constituents.

Mayor of Letterkenny Milford Municipal District, Donal Mandy Kelly, was one of many to wish Ian a very happy birthday.

Mayor Kelly said “I have gotten to know Ian very well over the last two years and I must say he is one of life’s true Gentlemen.

“Ian brings an unbelievable Wealth of Knowledge to the Chamber and is so dedicated to helping and doing the right thing for his Constituents to the very best of his ability.

“There is not a meeting that passes that Ian doesn’t show his passion drive and dedication to represent not only his Constituents but the County also.

“Ian is a credit to his constituents and please god if I ever live to see his age I hope I’m as able, humble and as healthy as he is. Happy birthday Ian.”
