Road to be assessed after cars slide onto roundabout

A non-slip surface is being sought for a busy roundabout in Letterkenny following a number of recent skidding incidents.

Donegal County Council is set to carry out an assessment on a problematic stretch of road from Teagasc to the roundabout at Optum from the Mountain Top Letterkenny.

Letterkenny-Milford Mayor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly raised motorists’ concerns at this month’s MD meeting. He said he has been contacted by people who had scares when their cars lost grip.

“It seems to be when there is rain, when you come down from the Mountain Top to that roundabout, cars seem to be sliding onto the roundabout when they brake,” Cllr Kelly said.

Cllr Kelly greeted the news that the council will be looking at this section of road to establish if a non-slip surface is required. If required, the Letterkenny Roads Service will be seeking funding to carry out the necessary works.
