The summer heatwave is setting in nationwide this weekend, but Donegal could see some rain later today.

Temperatures could reach as high as 32C in parts of Ireland in the coming days, with the north west expected to escape the hottest conditions.

According to forecaster the Met Eireann, temperatures will hover between 20C and 23C in the north west today. It is then expected to heat up tomorrow to highs of 27C.

While today will be “warm and mostly dry with a good deal of hazy sunshine”, forecasters are warning that “a few showers are possible in the afternoon and evening.”

Tonight will be “mainly dry, with just isolated showers.”

“Nighttime temperatures staying warmer than average, falling to between 14 and 17 degrees.”

A status yellow high temperature warning kicks in nationwide on Sunday morning. Midland counties Longford, Westmeath, Offaly, and Laois will be the hottest counties for the coming week, Met Eireann reports.
