Locals in the seaside town of Rathmullan have pleaded to locals and visitors not to discard their dog poo if the local dog bins are full.
They say the incidents of people simply throwing away their dog poo bags full of waste is becoming a daily occurrence.
The picture above was taken just after noon yesterday.
A local resident said “This dog poo bin and beside it was absolutely disgusting & stinking at 12.30 pm on Sunday, even though the bin was emptied late Saturday night.
“This is not a one off incident but fast becoming a daily occurrence and it has to stop!
“We all love our four legged friends and we know how enjoyable and refreshing a walk on the beach is, but is it fair that any employee or volunteer should be expected to clean up after someone else who just drops their dog poo beside the bin?
“If the bin is full, just take your poo bag home and please do not expect others to clean up after you.”
The resident said Rathmullan is a very busy town and beaches during the summer months with residents, holiday makers and many relations home visiting family, the ferry to Buncrana coming & going with long queues, sailing schools, water sports and packed beaches.
“There are also lots more tourists travelling on the wild Atlantic Way stopping off for a visit and this type of behaviour is giving a very poor impression of the town, so please, leave Rathmullan town and the beautiful beaches as you would expect to find them and take your rubbish and dog poo home.”
