Gardai are investigating the related thefts of two vehicles in east Donegal last week.

Investigations are continuing following the theft of the vehicles on Tuesday last in the Stranorlar and Carrigans areas.

One vehicle was later set alight and the other recovered by the PSNI after being involved in crashes in Carrigans.

Garda Niall Maguire said they are keen to identify two men involved.

On Tuesday, July 12, a white Renault Kangoo van (partial reg 151D) was stolen from Trenamullen, Stranorlar, sometime between 9am and 9:25am.

A male who was wearing a blue top was observed in the driver’s seat leaving in the stolen van.

Two men, who are believed to have been drunk, were seen walking in the area around that time.

Subsequently, a dangerous driving report was received in relation to the same van at Letterkenny Road, Lifford, shortly after 9:30am.

At around 9:45am the same morning, a red Toyota Landcruiser (01G6259) was stolen from Riverlands in nearby Carrigans.

The owner had just gotten out of the jeep to tend to animals when he saw a man get out of the white Renault Kangoo and jump into his vehicle.

Both vehicles drove off in the direction of Carrigans.

The jeep was seen driving over the border into Derry before returning to Carrigans a short time later where it hit a ditch at Pump Street.

The jeep was then set alight and two men left the scene in the stolen Kangoo van and drove towards Derry before being involved in a collision with another vehicle at Kildrum Lower, Carrigans, at 10am.

The stolen vehicle left the scene of the incident and crossed the border at Killea where it was recovered by the PSNI.

Anyone with information, or dashcam footage, is asked to contact Letterkenny Gardai on 0749167100 or call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
