The people of Letterkenny and across Donegal have been saddened by the passing of well-known businessman Fintan Houston.

Mr Houston will be remembered not just as a hard-working businessman but as a man who had compassion for others and who did trojan charity.

From a business perspective Mr Houston will be remembered as one half of FM Cleaning Services which he set up in 1994 with wife Marie.

The couple and their staff went on to create one of the most respected commercial cleaning companies in the country.

After his retirement Fintan dedicated his life to charity work and to helping many people who were less fortunate than himself.

One of his fondest charity ‘projects’ was creating a garden for children at Ballaghderg Special Needs Preschool on which he cut the opening ribbon (see pic above).

But Fintan was involved in so many other charitable projects and also had a special place in his heart for the Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

Many personal messages of thanks for his kindness and giving to others have flowed in overnight on social media.

Mr Houston is survived by his wife Marie née Maguire (Castlefin), son Kenneth and wife Emma and grandson Max (Carn High Ramelton), daughter Annette Houston Bonner and husband Gareth and granddaughter Cassie (Hazelwood Drive Letterkenny), relatives, neighbours and friends.

His remains will reposing at his late residence from 12 noon until 9pm with Rosary on Wednesday 20th July.

Funeral from there on Thursday 21st July going to St. Eunan’s Cathedral for 11am Requiem Mass which can be viewed online by using the following link https://www.churchservices.tv/letterkenny. followed by cremation in Lakelands Crematorium Cavan.

May he rest in peace.
