A local county councillor says it is time we looked at the needs of “our own people” as the accommodation crisis across the country continues.
Councillor Michael McClafferty said the Government now needs to look at Irish people who have fallen on hard times and are living on our streets.
He said “I am listening to the news about the Government seeking more hotels or guest house accommodation for our visitors.
“I think we have done enough already for those who have come in and it has gone well past time to stop and look at our own people for a change who are laying on various streets and towns now up and down the country.”
Councillor McClafferty said he has been inundated with complaints from worried parents who cannot find accommodation for their children re4turning to college in September.
“I spoke to one father whose son is halfway through his college course and cannot find accommodation and may seriously have to drop out because of this.
“This is modern Ireland now it seems.”
The Falcarragh/Dunfanaghy-based public representative said that many tourists seeking to come to visit Ireland’s towns and villages simply cannot because of the lack of accommodation.
“There is simply no room at the inn,” he added.
