A total of €18,500 has been granted for funding of four different Festivals and Summer Schools in Donegal taking place in 2022

Minister Catherine Martin has today announced a funding allocation of €122,045 for 34 events to support Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools across the country this year.

The scheme is designed to assist local cultural events which may not be eligible under funding criteria for larger scale events such as those supported by Fáilte Ireland, the Arts Council and similar bodies.

Closing date for applications was the 22nd April 2022. Funding was allocated following a competitive applications process, with a maximum grant of €5,000 available.

The four selected in Donegal were:

Mícheál Ó Cléirigh Summer School (€5,000) – A summer school celebrating the life and achievements of Mícheál Ó Cléirigh and his colleagues, the other members of the ‘Four Masters’.

Donegal Summer School of Music (€5,000) – A wide ranging programme of music workshops and related creative disciplines, delivered by a skilled pool of tutors, culminating in end of week performances.

Carndonagh Traders Association CLG (Live at the Marquee) (€3,500) – A four-day music and family festival celebrating local artists, musicians, and creative children’s workshops.

Ballyshannon Folk & Traditional Music Festival (€5,000) – Lively pub sessions, street entertainment, workshops, busking competitions and Ceilidhs.

Speaking today Minister Martin said: “I am very pleased to support the Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools scheme this year. Culture and arts add hugely to our lives and to our community.

“These projects make a very important contribution to the development and promotion of Ireland’s cultural tourism offering, to the benefit of both the domestic and foreign tourist. I send my congratulations and best wishes to the organisers and I hope that the attendees enjoy the events.”
