Michael Murphy was left disappointed as Glenswilly fell back to Division 2 but gave huge credit to Killybegs as they defeated his side by a point to survive.
After a couple of seasons flirting around the Division 1 relegation zone, it was Glenswilly’s year to go down after the narrow 0-10 to 0-9 defeat.
Murphy said:”We knew it would be a huge battle, the league’s always a good barometer it’s not a one off game it’s a 12 game league and you tend to get what you deserve.
“But credit to Killybegs, that last 20 minutes in particular, they kicked some fantastic scores and deserved to win in the end.”
Murphy added: “We’ve been playing tit-for-tat the last number of years in this division and this year it finally caught up with us.”
The Donegal captain had nothing but praise when asked about Declan Bonner, who resigned as county manager in the middle of the week.
“He’s been hugely committed to us as a group in the last 4 or 5 years.
“He has a huge passion for Donegal in general and he wants what’s best for it and he thought it was best if he moved on.
“I’m very very thankful for him individually and I know the team will be very very thankful for all that he done.
“Ultimately it came down to us as a group of players we just couldn’t bridge that gap out of Ulster through All-Ireland quarter finals and getting to where we wanted to get to and that’s where the buck lies.”
