The revised Defective Blocks scheme has been signed into law by President Michael D Higgins.
The legislation provides for a new scheme and new grants for the remediation of homes built with Mica/Pyrite concrete blocks. Mica campaigners were left disappointed when key amendments they sought for the scheme, such as penalty-free downsizing and replacement of foundations, were not passed during Dáil and Seanad votes.
The finalised bill became law on Saturday.
The expanded redress scheme, which will now include Clare and Limerick, is set to cost €2.7billion.
No formal timeline has been set for the new scheme, however, Mica campaigners say they do not expect the scheme to be operational until early next year.
