Communities across the Finn Valley and beyond are mourning the passing of Eugene Quinn.

Mr Quinn, of Ballybofey and formerly of Fintown, passed on Thursday in the care of Letterkenny University Hospital.

He was a former teacher at Dromore National School, Killygordon and a proud native Irish speaker.

Mr Quinn was well-known across the local GAA community as a referee and a former manager of underage teams at Red Hughs.

A tribute from Naomh Conaill G.A.A Club said: “Eugene was very well known and highly regarded in GAA circles and was probably best known to us in Naomh Conaill as a referee where he went about his duties in an unassuming, friendly and dedicated manner.”

Eugene is the beloved husband of the late Nancy, much loved father of Edel, Brendan, Fainche, Áine and the late Lisa, cherished brother of Ann (Molloy), Patsy, and the late Des.

Deeply regretted and sadly missed by his sorrowing daughters, son, sons-in-law Ryan, John Paul and Luke, grandchildren Lisa, Anna, Amy, Shay, Conor, Michael, Nancy and Senan, his dear friend Mary, nephews, nieces, extended family circle, neighbours and friends.

Obituary details are as follows:

Reposing at McCool’s Chapel of Rest, Ballybofey on Thursday (July 28th) from 7.30 p.m. until 9.30 p.m. and on Friday (July 29th) from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral from there on Saturday (July 30th) at 10.30 a.m. via Edenmore for Requiem Mass in St. Patrick’s Church, Crossroads, Killygordon at 11 a.m. Cremation afterwards at Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan at 3 p.m. The Requiem Mass will be streamed live via the Parish Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/StPatricksCrossroads/.
