The death has taken place in the US of a young Tyrone man with strong Donegal connections.

Cormac McLaughlin (39), from Castlederg, passed away earlier today in Texas.

He is the son of Rhona (née Hegarty) and the late Charlie McLaughlin from Buncrana.

He also has many family members within the area and his brother, Darragh, lives with his family in the Inishowen town.

In Easter last year, Cormac (main pic with wife Krystal) was diagnosed with an aggressive, life-threatening brain tumour.

Since then, more than €200,000 had been raised through the Care for Cormac fund to pay for pioneering treatment in the US.

A statement on the fund’s Facebook page said Cormac just wasn’t strong or stable enough in the end to fly home.

“The money donated to get him home will still be spent to do so, just not the way we had wanted,” the statement read.

“It will also be used for the hospital bills. We are eternally grateful for all your financial support so that Cormac had the chance to access the trial and other treatment options approved in America, in one of the best cancer hospitals in the world.

“He said he always wanted to ‘try everything’ and fight this as hard as he could.”

Funeral arrangements will be confirmed later.
