Multi-million contracts for two Donegal hotels housing Ukrainian refugees

Two Donegal hotels have been awarded contracts totalling over €6million to accommodate Ukrainian refugees.

The Irish Examiner has revealed that the Government is paying €99.3m on accommodation and ancillary services to hotels across the country.

Tender documents from the Department of Integration show that McGettigan’s Hotel in Letterkenny has been awarded a contract worth €3.7m. The Grand Central Hotel in Bundoran has a contract with the State worth almost €2.5m.

According to the Examiner, 90 tender documents have been signed to date.

As the accommodation shortage continues, the Department of Sport has asked sporting bodies to house Ukrainian refugees on a temporary basis. The call comes as approx 3,500 refugees housed in student accommodation will have to move elsewhere in the coming weeks as the new academic year begins.
