The Irwin brothers travelled to Thruxton Race Circuit, UK midst the blistering August heat wave to compete in round 6 of the British Superbikes Championship and they did not disappoint.
Rhys, racing in the Supersport Championship on the Astro Triumph, qualified well placing 8th and 10th in race 1 and 2 respectively.
Their team manager expressed his delight with Rhys’s performance over the weekend.
‘This is a hard year for us as a team. We are developing the Triumph in the premier class at BSB, trying to get the bike set up perfect. Rhys is performing well above all our expectations and we are getting closer to overcoming the problems we are having with the new bike, and getting real good results.’
Caolán racing on the R&R Yamaha also had good pace finishing in 13th place.
He said afterwards “I love this track it fast and very unforgiving. We have spent the weekend trying to keep cool which has been tough but I am coming away delighted with how the weekend’s racing went and with good points for the Championship.
“Thanks as always to our sponsors who we couldn’t race without especially our local sponsors James Gallagher of Northwest Customs and Oasis Bar Letterkenny , Wes Regan, Dawn International, Megabikes, Motorcycling Ireland, Mondello Park Supporters club, RK Racing, Principal Insurance, LS2 helmets, Shark Helmets and Mondello Park Race Circuit.
