People urged to park and walk to popular Donegal beach over traffic concerns

People are being urged to park and walk to Marble Hill beach near Dunfanaghy following recent incidents which resulted in access being blocked.

Although there are designated yellow no-parking zones, some motorists are flouting the law at busy times.

Gardai were recently called to clear the carriageway which would allow access in the event of an emergency.

Local county councillor Michael McClafferty appealed to people not to park illegally.

“There is no longer adequate or safe parking in the region of the car park area. People tend to park over the double yellow lines or along the verge clearly marked for safety as to keep clear at all times.

“If any sort of emergency vehicle has to get down it wouldn’t be able to due to being unable to squeeze through etc.

“This is totally irresponsible on everyone who blocks the road by parking illegally. Gardai had to go down several times on various days to clear the carriage way – once again draining resources.

“People could park further away park in a lay-by safely and walk further. At least the road would be open for all to enjoy safely,” he said.
