Planning permission granted for Donegal’s first ‘columbarium’

Planning permission has been granted for Donegal’s first columbarium.

The facility, for the interment of ashes, will be erected at Ards Friary, near Creeslough.

Planning permission was applied for by Brother Philip Baxter and was recently approved by Donegal County Council.

As a result, people who wish to be cremated can have their ashes interred in the grounds at the Friary.

The application details the erection of an external columbarium with a natural stone and smooth concrete render envelope housing bronze plated columbarium niches.

The suggested location for the facility is behind the community cemetery.

The application followed discussions between the Ards community and Eternum Columbarium, a Belfast based company which specialises in building columbaria.
