Works to Tory Island road to start next week

An important road on Tory Island is finally to get a new sheet of tar.

The Bitmac Contractor, Churchill Stone Ltd, was to commence surfacing the Lighthouse Road tomorrow.

However, Independent Councillor Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig, has been informed by Donegal County Council the works will now take place next week.

“I have just been advised that the contractor has revised his programme due to the forecasted weather and tidal conditions this week,” he explained.

“Mobilisation is now planned for this Friday with a view to commence surfacing next week.”

The council advised that the dates should only ever be used as a guide, given the complex nature of works on islands.

It is envisaged, subject to suitable weather, that the works will take five working days to complete. The Lighthouse road will be blocked to vehicular traffic during the works.
