The line-up for the Quarter-Finals of the Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Championship was completed after the final round of group games was played on Saturday evening.
Buncrana, Dungloe and Termon had already qualified, with Naomh Columba and Downings looking certain to join them and after winning their games tonight against Buncrana and Naomh Brid respectively they confirmed their places in the last eight. After tonight’s other games, the other teams making the Quarter-Finals are Naomh Mhuire, Gaeil Fhanada and Red Hughs.
The Quarter-Finals Line-up is ;
Dungloe v Naomh Mhuire.
Termon v Red Hughs.
Naomh Columba v Buncrana
Downings v Gaeil Fhanada
The bottom four teams, Burt, Convoy, Malin and Naomh Brid will be involved in relegation playoffs. Dungloe and Naomh Mhuire will meet again after their derby game finished 2-07 to 0-07 in Dungloe’s favour tonight at Rosses Park, meaning Dungloe topped the league table and Naomh Mhuire finished eighth.
Termon finished second following a 0-15 to 2-04 victory over Malin and will now meet Red Hughs who just squeezed through 0-12 to 0-09 in their derby game with Convoy.
Downings jumped up into third spot by beating Naomh Brid by 5-12 to 2-09 , Lorcan Conner with three and Paddy McElwee with two shares the goals for the in-form Downings men.
They will now meet Gaeil Fhanada in the last eight after their win over Burt , Liam McGrenaghan and Seamus Coyle got the goals in a 2-09 to 0-08 win for the Fanad men.
Buncrana had started their game at the top of the table but had to settle for fifth spot in the final standings after defeat by Naomh Columba , 2-16 to 1-13 in a cracker of a game, Eric Carr and Pauric Ward got the home team’s goals with Ryan Gillespie top scoring. It means that by finishing fourth and fifth respectively these two will now meet again in the quarter-finals.
