PLANNING permission has been granted for a multi million euro refurbishment of the Seaview Hotel in Bunbeg, Gweedore.

An extension will add eighty new bedrooms, a new cafe and an additional restaurant to the hotel at Magheraclogher.

The former Seaview nightclub will be demolished under the project to create new rooms and a gym.

In total, 44 new bedrooms will be added to the building, while the existing 36 rooms will be renovated alongside the original bar and restaurant. Two apartments will also be constructed.

Vesada Private Ltd is carrying out the development as part of their €15m investment to reopen both the Seaview Hotel and the nearby Óstán Ghaoth Dobhair. Up to 80 jobs are to be created across the two hotels.

Donegal County Council had sought further information on the planning application for the Seaview Hotel development in 2021, requesting details on the treatment and disposal of foul effluent. This was provided by the applicants in spring 2022.

Vesada’s ‘Bunbeg Revitalization’ project aims to regenerate and revitalize Bunbeg after it suffered economically from the closure of the two main hotels.

The works will see the Seaview Hotel renovated to 4* standard. “The Bunbeg Seaview Deluxe Hotel” will be a luxury hotel that will cater for weddings and functions. The Óstán Hotel will be transformed into a 4 * Aparthotel with self-catering units added within the existing main building, and guests of the Seaview hotel will be able to use the facilities at the nearby Óstán Holiday Leisure and Activity Complex.

The well-known Sea View Hotel at Magheraclogher closed its doors in January 2015. Formerly owned by Mr Jimmy Boyle, the building was put on the market later that year with an asking price of €250,000.
