Parents across the country have been warned to avoid giving out personal details in ‘back-to-school’ photos on social media.
Photos of children in their school uniforms, standing outside their homes, can give away a lot of sensitive information, gardaí have warned.
Parents are reminded not to reveal school crests and home addresses online. They are also encouraged not to include their home door numbers and to turn off location data on their phones before taking the picture.
Taking to social media, Gardai Info tweeted: “As schools nationwide begin to reopen this week – lots of proud loved ones will be uploading and posting photos of children in uniform. Our Cyber Crime Bureau have some useful guidance so that we can all be Cyber Smart and protect their safety online. Help us spread the word.”
