A teenage boy has died following a tragic fall at a horse-racing meeting in Kerry this afternoon.
The tragedy happened at 5pm at Rossbeigh beach during a race meeting at Glenbeigh in Co Kerry.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of the incident.
A Garda spokesperson said: “A male in his teens received treatment at the scene following the incident but was later pronounced deceased.
“His body has since been removed to the morgue at Kerry University Hospital.”
The Glenbeigh races is a popular two day event with young jockeys.
It had just got underway again today for the first time since the pandemic.
The teenage jockey is believed to have fallen from his horse as the animals were making a turn near the water’s edge.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene, including a number of ambulances and the air ambulance.
All races at the two day meeting, due to continue tomorrow, were cancelled following the tragedy. a beach race meeting at Glenbeigh in Co Kerry.
