Crash at Letterkenny junction should serve as final call for action – Cllr Kavanagh

Serious concerns have been raised over a busy junction in Letterkenny following another crash today.

One person has been hospitalised after a three-vehicle collision at the Golf Course Road Junction on the Ramelton Road this lunchtime.

The collision is one of many incidents on this stretch of road, which is the main route to Ramelton and Milford.

Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh has called for urgent action to make the junction safer for vehicles and pedestrians.

He said: “I hope the people involved were not seriously hurt and I wish them a speedy recovery.”

Cllr Kavanagh said he was “disappointed but not surprised” to read about the accident.

“This is an issue that has been raised with me by concerned residents in the area on several occasions and I in turn have raised the issue several times with Donegal County Council.

“The dangers of the junction need to be addressed as a matter of urgency before something really serious happens there.

“I have also highlighted the dangers faced by youngsters as they wait for school buses in the morning without any shelter or signage and practically having to stand in the ditch to avoid traffic.”

Cllr Kavanagh has again called on the council to apply for urgent funding to address the serious safety issues at this junction.

“This accident should serve as a final warning to the council, that action on safety must now be taken, to prevent further accidents,” he said.
