The death has been announced of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96.
The British monarch passed away at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, surrounded by close family.
A short statement from Buckingham Palace said: “She died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
Prince Charles and Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince William, Andrew and Edward were all rushed to Aberdeen this afternoon to be by her side as she was put under medical supervision.
Queen Elizabeth is the second-longest reigning monarch in world history, and Britain’s longest-reigning sovereign, having ruled since February 6th 1952. She celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in June.
The Queen, who had been suffering from mobility issues, was last seen publicly on Tuesday when she met with newly appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss and outgoing PM Boris Johnson.
Mourners have been gathered at the gates of Balmoral Castle and at Buckingham Palace in London since this afternoon.
