A Donegal school teacher has called on National University of Ireland (NUI) graduates to vote for her in the upcoming Senate elections.
Marina Carlin, originally from Crossroads, Killygordon, is the sole practicing teacher, and only Donegal candidate, running for membership of the NUI Governing Body.
Her main aim is to raise awareness of autism at 3rd level and has urged graduates to urgently apply for their ballot paper before Friday’s 5pm deadline.
An autism teacher in Inishowen, she wants to use her knowledge “to build on the important work already done” to address challenges facing young people going on to university or college.
NUI graduates may vote in this election by applying for a voting paper by 23rd September using the application form available here.
This form may be completed and emailed to elections@nui.ie or returned by post to the NUI records office.
Marina is an Autism Special Class teacher, Assistant Principal (policy development role) and Board of Management member in Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana.
She is a member of the ASTI Central Executive Committee and Donegal Branch Equality Officer.
Marina has extensive experience at regional, national and international levels in developing strategies for young people which foster a positive environment and address educational disadvantage.
She is a Director of Donegal Youth Service since 2008 and incoming Chairperson of the service.
Completed voting papers must be posted to arrive by Wednesday October 5th.
“Please remember to include your signed declaration form with your vote, to ensure that your vote is valid,” she concluded.
