The recent dry spell will make way for heavy rain this afternoon, according to Met Éireann.

There will be rain and drizzle to start, turning persistent in the evening and extending to the east of the province.

Highest temperatures of 15 or 16 degrees with southerly winds increasing moderate to fresh.

It will become breezy tonight with widespread rain, heavy and persistent with a chance of local spot flooding.

Lowest temperatures of 12 or 13 degrees in moderate to fresh south or southwest winds.
