Weekly social welfare payments will be increased by €12 under Budget 2023.

Double welfare payments are also on the way, as well as a once-off payment of €500 for carers.

A suite of proposals for extra social supports and higher tax rate bands will be announced later today.

Among the measures are a €1000 tax credit for renters (€500 this year and €500 next year).

A €1,000 cut to third-level fees is also expected to be announced for this year.

Parents can expect a 25% cut to childcare fees and free school books from next September.

An additional 430,000 people will become eligible to receive a GP visit card.

The highest tax band is expected to be widened so that the top rate of 40 per cent, which currently applies to those earning over €36,800, will kick in closer to €40,000.

The full Budget 2023 will be unveiled by Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe and Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Michael McGrath later today.
