Rory’s heading back to the island for new Lanzarote pub venture!

Kilcar singer Rory Gallagher has revealed that he is beginning a new venture at a Lanzarote bar.

The former frontman of The Revs will soon have his name over the door at ‘Rory’s Corner Bar’ in Puerto Del Carmen.

The pub, which is set to open in the New Year, will be run by his friends Aoibhin and Paul O’Keefe. Rory will be bringing some star quality to the entertainment side of the venture with regular gigs and ‘sunset sessions’ for locals and tourists alike.

The precise location of the bar is yet to be revealed, but fans are already looking forward to planning their trips to the Canaries to see Rory back in action in the sun-soaked setting.

Rory, who went viral in 2012 with his ‘Jimmy’s Winning Matches’ tune,  founded The Island Music Bar in Lanzarote and lived on the island for 12 year before returning home in 2018.

Covid-19 brought unprecedented challenges for the musician. After moving his family to Edinburgh in Scotland to open a brand new live music bar in the city called “The Wildcat” in March 2020, the venue never saw its official opening night. Rory tried his hand as a delivery driver for Amazon, for a whole day, before returning to his true passion.

The opportunity for ‘Rory’s Corner Bar’ came out of the blue, Rory said.

Sharing the news on Facebook, Rory said: “Our good friends Aoibhin and Paul O’Keefe have been saying for ages how they wanted to move over and open a bar in Lanzarote, Aoibhin informed me of this little bar which was up for lease, so we put our heads together and realized we could do something very cool where they live there and run it and I pop over regularly and do some sunset sessions!

“We will be showing all big sports events, creating a new cocktail menu, even video broadcasting some of my gigs live into the bar when I’m not there (oh the modern world!). We hope to be fully open in January ’23 and Aoibhin and Paul cannot wait to welcome you all in. Many of you might remember Paul who was the bar man in the Island Bar!

“After losing The Wildcat in Edinburgh during the pandemic we swore we would never open another one… but here we go.. Viva Lanzarote!”

Rory issued a thank you to all his fans for their support since the pandemic, adding: “I could be driving for Amazon… Some of you deserve your own barstool in the new bar.”
