Council and gardaí attend overnight flooding in Glenswilly

The Glenswilly road was left impassable for a time last night following more heavy rain leading to more flooding.

The area of the R250 Letterkenny-Glenties road, close to Glenswilly NS, has seen a series of obstructive floods in recent weeks.

After an earlier flood and clean-up on Tuesday morning, more torrents of water washed over the road last night.

The road was blocked and impassable as council staff and gardaí worked in the area. The road is passable this Wednesday morning, however pipes have been ripped out once again.

‘I have no words, this is shocking,” said Mayor for Letterkenny-Milford Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly.

Cllr Kelly is calling for an emergency meeting with Donegal County Council this week to secure a long-term solution for the repeated flooding issue.

The issue, Cllr Kelly says, centres on a stormwater pipe which is in need of replacing with a larger 4ft pipe. Cllr Kelly is calling on the council to urgently seek funds to carry out the works “once and for all”.
