Hackers trying to access bank accounts – as Gaeilge

written by Staff Writer October 6, 2022

Hackers are attempting to access the bank accounts of people in Co Donegal – as Gaeilge.

Dozens of people have received emails in the name of Alice Martin who claims to have inherited more than ten million dollars from her late father Jospeh Martin in America.

The malicious emails are written in Irish.

In the emails the bogus email informs people that the sender is will to give 20% of the inheritance to the recipient if they can lodge the funds into their bank account.

The recipient is then asked for their bank account details!

A return email address is provided and the bogus emailer even signs off by saying “Go raibh maith agat.”

A Garda spokesperson said “We are aware of this email which is circulating in recent days.

“We would advise people in the case of all of these emails, no matter what language they are presented in, not to reply to them.

“We would also strongly advise people never to send any of their personal details, including bank account details, to anybody online.”

Below is the English and Irish versions of the bogus email below.
