A Donegal county councillor has said he has serious concerns for people’s mental health due to rising energy costs.

Councillor Michael McClafferty says he has spoken to many people who are beside themselves with worry that they will not be able to pay their bills.

The Falcarragh-based councillor said It’s at a critical point and I’m genuinely concerned at this stage for people’s well-being. I am hearing from business people this week that they can’t go on.

“This is where we’re at in a cruel modern-day Ireland that has become so expensive that most if not all of our youth are being forced to emigrate.

“When will somebody in power shout stop and say enough is enough,” he asked.
