Listeners to the station’s popular Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show voted the ‘soft northern lilt’ ahead of the other 25 counties in the Republic.
Well-known Letterkenny schoolteacher Kieran Kelly carried the flag for Donegal.
In the heats he recited a piece he wrote entitled ‘Choose Donegal’ in the style of Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting and managed to blow away the Dubs.
And not even the wee Monaghan accent could stand in our way in the final.
The brilliantly-scripted and delivered piece blew readers away and landed Donegal the title and Kieran a deserved Blue Book voucher.
