Three counties in Ireland including Donegal, Dublin and Kerry now account for 40% of Ukrainians now based in Ireland.

A total of 3,971 displaced people form the war-thorn country are now living in temporary or emergency accommodation, such as hotels in Donegal.

The latest plan for Donegal will see a further 179 more refugees moved into Ballybofey.

The families will be housed in 47 apartments above the ground floor shops at the Finn Valley Shopping Centre.

Other groups of Ukrainian people have been placed in accommodation across the county.

The greatest number of Ukrainian refugees are in Dublin with 7,038 with Kerry having the second largest amount with 4,403 followed by Donegal.

Figures released by the Department of Integration show there are now 38,212 Ukrainians living in Ireland in emergency accommodation.

Deputy Joe McHugh told the Irish Times he wanted to know how properties and locations were chosen and “how the department decides what is an appropriate number of people per property to ensure the safety and welfare of those being accommodated”.

He also said communication was vital with education and health providers to ensure people being accommodated had access to important services.
