A large gathering of the Irish diaspora took place in Sydney last night to send love and strength back to the people of Donegal.
The vigil, organised by Buncrana man Adrian McMyler, took place in the picturesque Coogee beach area.
People from all walks of life with a connection to Donegal joined together to light candles and pray for the ten lives lost Creeslough on Friday afternoon. They prayed for the survivors and the families and friends of the victims.
Speaking at the event, Adrian said: “Although I’m just recently moved over from Ireland back in August, so many events has happened back home where sometimes you feel so far away but yet so close because of social media.
“We are thinking on everyone who is from the Creeslough tonight over in Sydney and especially those who are family or friends with any of the emergency frontline workers, hospital staff, survivors, or any of the people who sadly passed away.”
Adrian shared words of praise to the Creeslough community and businesses for the rapid response efforts following the horrific tragedy.
A minute’s silence was observed and the guardian angel prayer was said together.
People in Sydney affected by the tragedy are being offered support and subsided counselling at The Irish Support Agency in Sydney based in Surry Hills.
