New report shows counties with highest Covid death rates

There were almost 300 Covid-19 related deaths in Donegal during the Pandemic.

According to a new Health Protection Surveillance Centre report, deaths per 100,000 in Donegal currently stands at 180.3, or a total of 287.

The number of Covid-related deaths and mortality rate per 100,000 in Ireland by county of notification relate to the period from 01/03/2020 to 15/10/2022.

Mayo, Louth and Cavan have seen the highest rate so far in the pandemic.

The Covid-19 deaths per 100,000 stands at 245.2 in Mayo, followed by 228.9 in Louth and 211.4 in Cavan.

The county with the lowest rate is Sligo with 93.1 deaths per 100,000, followed by Galway, Tipperary, Kerry and Cork.

Covid-19 deaths in Ireland are counted under ‘possible, probable and confirmed.’
