Families will today begin to receive double child benefit payment of €280 as part of measures to assist households with the rising cost of living.

The payment in respect of 1.2 million children across the State will cost €170 million.

A number of cost-of-living measures, announced as part of Budget 2023, are due to take effect this month.

Today, the first of three €200 electricity credits will also start to appear on people’s bills.

Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys will announce details around the double payment of child benefit later this morning.

It will assist almost 640,000 families.

Opposition parties also proposed a double payment of child benefit in their alternative budgets in September.
