West Donegal Cllr Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig has welcomed a €1million allocation to create apartments for social housing at a Dungloe complex.
A recommended budget of €1,052,019 has been set to convert and refurbish two group homes at Fairhill Lodge and turn them into eight apartments for people on the social housing waiting list.
The homes in the complex had been empty since the building was constructed, Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig said.
He has now welcomed the remediation project which will bring much-needed housing to the area.
“I have been working on this with others for a long time,” he said.
Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig said it was “not good enough” that the accommodation, which was owned by Respond Housing Association, was not filled while there were people homeless in the area.
“I want to give a very strong recognition to the housing section in Clochan Liath for all the hard work and their commitment to keep at this, and everybody involved in this project.”
